Breast augmentation has seen a huge increase in numbers since 2004 and has become one of the most common cosmetic procedures Dr Birch performs. There is no hard and fast rules as to what style and type of augmentation his patients requires, Dr Birch carefully tailors each operation to fit each patient, working within the patients desires. However he most commonly places the implant behind the muscle through an inframammary incision (under the breast). This generally gives a longer lasting and more aesthetically pleasing result.

Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is one of the most satisfying procedures. Not only does it have functional benefits such as a reduction in neck and back pain, but also has a significant cosmetic improvement. The procedure involves repositioning the nipple and excising the required skin and breast tissue to give the desired breast shape and volume. The resultant scars are optimised by hiding them in the patient's natural curves and being careful not to place them under excessive tension. An often heard quote from these patients is ‘You’ve changed my life!’
Breast Lift / Mastopexy
The breast lift also known as a mastopexy is a procedure that removes excess breast skin to raise and reshape to a more aesthetic breast. The procedure involves repositioning the nipple and excising the required skin and shares a similar scar pattern to that of the reduction; circumvertical with a short or extended horizonal incision. A mastopexy can be performed as a single procedure where and increase overall volume is not desired but is commonly done in conjunction with other procedures including removal and replacement of implants and augmentation.
